Meningitis is a serious infection that affects the protective layers around the brain and spinal cord.
Anyone can get it, but itโ€™s most common in babies, young children, teenagers, and young adults.
It can become life-threatening very quickly and may lead to sepsis or long-term damage to the brain and nerves if not treated fast. Vaccinations are available and can help protect against some types of meningitis.
